This was written well over twenty years ago.
Sadly, not a lot has changed.
Supermarket trolley
buses rolling down the
high street shoppers
in their mad dash
bargain hunting
money spending
credit-taking
frenzy queuing
shoving barging
after just another bargain
basements packed with
discard items destined
for the bonfires
in the back lots
where the cats and rats
attack the wastage
piled in mountains near
the poor and hungry
huddled in their boxes
in the rain
coats soaked
through and through
not me
not you know who
they’re someone else’s
problem
supermarket trolley
buses rolling down the
high street past gutters
full of misery and
rain-soaked pain
